New for 2017, The Horse Riders' Vacation.

Are you an experienced  rider? Come to Muskoka  for a week of  western riding, great trails and amazing hospitality.  Winding Fences Farm offers equine enthusiasts a 6 day riding vacation in picturesque Muskoka and beyond.  You or your group of 2-4 guests  spend the first 3 days getting to know your horse, with the opportunity to learn or improve your western riding skills and ride the trails on 200+ acres of prime Muskoka farmland and forest. Trails consist of approximately 100 acres of field and 100+ acres of forest riding.   In addition to our trails you can try working cattle with horses and practice sorting young stock in our round pens. Mid week we take our horses to a 1,600 acre local forest for an all day ride next to the Muskoka River.  You finish your week travelling to an 11,000 acre forest for 2 more days of riding, staying at a local bed and breakfast where showers and comfortable beds await after an all day ride.  At the end of our 2nd day we head home to Winding Fences Farm for our last night.  Campfire, music and highlights of the week in a picture presentation round out the evening.

Meals and Accommodation

While at Winding Fences you will stay at the farmhouse in one of our guest rooms that overlook the farm.  Catch the sun rising  over the trees and observe the valley grow brighter.  Look at the horses or cattle grazing in the early morning mist.  Breakfasts are continental with an assortment of fresh fruit, yogurts and breads.  Lunches and dinners are served using vegetables from the garden and our farm raised chicken and beef.   Mid week, one of our local chefs prepares a gourmet meal catered around your likes and preferences.

Itinerary

Day 1 guests  arrive between 11 am and 1 pm.  After a short tour and a chance to settle in, you visit the horse herd and meet your horse.  You will  get to know your horse, groom and tack up for a 1.5 hour ride in our round pens and fields.  Your first evening is spent around a campfire listening to the coyotes and other assorted wildlife while getting to know  the other guests  and your hosts.

Day 2  we  prepare for a morning ride on our farm trails.  We ride the field trails where there are opportunities for trotting and cantering and a short forest trail that goes over varied terrain. After lunch the choice of a western riding lesson or  more trail riding.  A bbq dinner and bonfire with local musical guests as available will round out the evening.

Day 3 we catch up our horses and prepare them for a 2 hour ride. After lunch you have some free time to explore the local towns of Bracebridge and Huntsville or  enjoy the peace and quiet of the farm.  We will spend the evening learning to move cattle on horseback and finish with some ranch sorting practice. We end the night with  a campfire and smores.

Day 4 after breakfast we take the horses for a full day of riding on  local forest trails .  We picnic in a quiet area of the forest before returning to the farm late afternoon in time to get cleaned up for a gourmet dinner.

Day 5 we pack for an overnight trip and travel approximately 3 hours to our destination; the 11,000 acre Ganaraska Forest. We ride between 4-5 hours each day.  We will take lunches to eat on the trail, returning to our accommodations in time to get cleaned up before dinner at a local restaurant. Overnight accommodations are at a local bed and breakfast.

Day 6 we continue to explore new trails and spectacular views of the forest.  Mid afternoon we load up the horses to return home where we  relax with a casual dinner, and recount our adventures around a campfire.

Day 7 is departure day and a good time to take  those photos you wanted to take during the week.  Check out is 1 pm .

Local Attractions
